Gibbs Bros. Cooperage
A
cooperage is a shop where round wooden containers, which we generally
called kegs or barrels are manufactured. These casks are an essential
element in the making and keeping of wine & fine liquors as
well as serving as wooden containers & decorative objects.
Casks intended for spirits, molasses, wax, vinegar
or other liquids have to be tight--that is, water-tight--and the
cooper who makes these types of containers is a "tight cooper."
Slack casks were used for flour, potatoes, apples, crockery and
just about anything else that might have to be shipped from one
location to another or possibly in the making of barrel furnishings.
A
cooper has always been an essential craftman in respect to the time-honored
tasks which traditionally use barrels. His responsibility is still
to assemble pre-made casks as they are needed to hold the valuable
wines & spirits, waxes, vinegars and other items. Gibbs Bros.
Cooperage is proud to provide barrels for such distillers as Jack
Daniels Distillery and others.
